Within the new Chicago Alliance for Playwrights (CAP) Directory you will find detailed descriptions of 150 new plays and information on the Chicago area playwrights who have developed these new works.  Some of the plays listed have already received awards and productions.  All have had some degree of development, through either staged readings or workshops.  We welcome you to get in touch with the CAP member playwrights who are creating important new work.

The Chicago Alliance for Playwrights (CAP) brings together individual playwrights, playwright development groups and others who are interested in the development of plays.  The mission of CAP is to provide services and educational programs that promote the professional advancement of Chicago area playwrights.  We strive to open the lines of communication between the general public and playwright development groups.  CAP also seeks to encourage production of new plays, especially those by Chicago-based playwrights. 

CAP sponsors Playwright-Director Exchanges, workshops on the business of playwriting, play production and play publication, discussions on issues confronting collaborators, as well as special conversations with outstanding playwrights, directors and producers.  These have included Hal Prince, Frank Galati, Craig Lucas, Arthur Kopit, Steve Tesich, Dale Wasserman, Steve Carter, Keith Reddin, Anne McGravie, Claudia Allen, Sharon Evans, Charles Smith and Nicholas Patricca, with Jonathan Abarbanel frequently serving as interviewer or moderator.
